| Pietro Calendino was first appointed
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business,
Tourism and Culture in July 1999 and was re-appointed in both
February and November of 2000. He currently serves on a number
of legislative select standing committees, as well as several
special committees.
Pietro was elected to Legislative Assembly to represent the
constituency of Burnaby North in the 1996 general election.
Before entering politics, Pietro taught French, Spanish and
Math, as well as Career and Personal Planning in secondary
schools from 1975 to 1996. He was elected to the Burnaby School
Board in 1987 and served three terms, including two years
as chair.
Pietro Calendino holds an Honours B.A. and Master's degree
(Languages) from the University of British Columbia and has
done post-graduate work at the University of North Carolina.
He also holds a teaching certificate from Simon Fraser University.
Pietro's community involvement includes having served as
President of both the B.C. Heritage Language Association and
the B.C. Association of Modern Language teachers, as well
as a Director of the Burnaby Multicultural Society, the Burnaby
Regional Health Board and of the National Congress of Italian
Canadians.
Born in Italy, Pietro came to Canada with his family in 1959.
Pietro and Chedna Calendino have lived in Burnaby for 26
years and have one daughter, Milena. |
