Michael de Jong was elected to the B.C. Legislature in a by-election in 1994.

Mr. de Jong is a lawyer and past-president of the Fraser Valley Law Association. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University in Ottawa and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Alberta. He has been a member of the B.C. Law Society since 1989.

He is a former Abbotsford school trustee. He has also been involved with the Abbotsford-Matsqui Arts Council, and the Matsqui Youth Commission. He is a captain in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve.
