| The Health Committee is made of ten Members of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly (MLAs). This all-party committee was asked by the Legislature to look into the problem of childhood obesity and to make recommendations about ways that government can change behaviours to get children and youth to eat healthier, improve their health and increase their physical fitness.
The Committee has heard from dozens of expert witnesses about how to make kids healthier. Then they asked kids themselves what they think will help make British Columbian kids healthy and active, and how best to stop the rise of childhood obesity in our province. Through this website, a drawing contest, meetings at high schools in Vancouver, Victoria, Campbell River, Fort St. John and Williams Lake, the Committee listened to what youth in BC had to say, and used that knowledge in writing their final report. The report was released on November 29, 2006. Read a summary of it here.
