THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2010

The committee met at 12:05 p.m.

Election of Chair and Deputy Chair

K. Ryan-Lloyd (Clerk Assistant and Committee Clerk): Good afternoon, everyone. As there is not yet a Chair elected to serve the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth for the second session of the 39th parliament, I'll call the meeting to order and open up the floor for nominations to the position of Chair.

L. Krog: I nominate Joan McIntyre.

K. Ryan-Lloyd (Committee Clerk): Thank you, Leonard.

We have a nomination for Ms. McIntyre.

Do you accept nomination?

J. McIntyre: I do, thank you very much.

K. Ryan-Lloyd (Committee Clerk): Okay. Then I'll call the question.

Motion approved.

[J. McIntyre in the chair.]

J. McIntyre (Chair): Thank you very much. I am very pleased to resume the chairmanship of this committee, as we just got off…. I think we've gotten off to a good start, so I'm very happy. Actually, the composition is the same as last term, so I look forward to working together with everybody again as we go forward.

Agenda item 2. I'd like to call for the election of the Deputy Chair. Nominations?

J. Rustad: Maurine.

J. McIntyre (Chair): And Leonard seconding it.

Maurine, do you accept?

M. Karagianis: I do, yes. Thank you very much. I'm happy to accept.

J. McIntyre (Chair): I'll call the question.

Motion approved.

J. McIntyre (Chair): Thank you very much, Maurine.

Establishment of Subcommittees

J. McIntyre (Chair): Then item 3, the appointment of subcommittee on agenda and procedure and subcommittee on critical injury and child death referrals.

J. Rustad: I move the Chair and Deputy Chair for the committee.

Motion approved.

Other Business

J. McIntyre (Chair): Item 4. Any other business?

L. Krog: I just want to offer my compliments to the newly elected Chair and vice-Chair for the obvious hard work they engaged in to get this committee back up and running in such short order. It reflects on their abilities, and I want to offer my compliments to them both, on the record.

J. McIntyre (Chair): Yes, I actually think it was very nice. It was a good effort of collaboration and cooperation in all of us and on both sides of this House, recognizing the importance of the work of this committee. I think that is good. Thank you very much for mentioning it. I think, yeah, there was a little bit of running around to get that handled.

Actually, thank you to the Clerk, to Kate, as well, because Kate helped expedite that and has been providing the Deputy Chair and me some very good support. Let's put that on the record as well.

J. Rustad: Motion to adjourn.

J. McIntyre (Chair): One small thing before we do that. I think we should confirm. We were still heading towards March 3 with our meeting date, so just to put that on the record as well, with the agenda as before.

Thank you for that. With that, I'll entertain a motion to adjourn.

Motion approved.

J. McIntyre (Chair): Good. So we'll see you on March 3.

The committee adjourned at 12:09 p.m.
