Hansard Broadcasting Services televises complete, uninterrupted coverage of proceedings from the floor of the House. During debate on the budget estimates, a second section of the Committee of Supply, referred to as Committee A, may be empowered to meet concurrently in a separate meeting room. The proceedings of Committee A are recorded and rebroadcast after the live House proceedings. Occasionally, the House may activate a third televised venue, Committee C, with the same rules and provisions as Committee A.
Parliamentary Committees Broadcasts
Starting in the fall of 2014, Hansard Broadcasting Services has begun televising the audio of Parliamentary Committee meetings over its cable and satellite TV channel.
House proceedings in the main legislative chamber are given priority and are always broadcast live. Evening rebroadcasts begin at 7:00 p.m. with the day's Oral Question Period, followed by the pre-recorded broadcast of Committee A proceedings, when that committee is active. The proceedings in Committee C are rebroadcast on weekends beginning at 9:00 a.m.
When Committee A is inactive, a complete rebroadcast of the day's House proceedings will be scheduled. However, the House rebroadcast may be pre-empted by pre-recorded Parliamentary Committee meetings that could not be aired live.
All House, Committee A and Committee C proceedings and Parliamentary Committees meeting in open session are streamed live over the Internet, starting approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the event.
All streamed events are archived and available for on-demand playback approximately 15 minutes after the event concludes.
Events being streamed live and links to archived material may be found on the House and Parliamentary Committees Webcast page.
