About the Summer Guide Job

Each summer, the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia hires university students to deliver tours to the thousands of school children and visitors from around the world who visit the Parliament Buildings.  

Our tour guides interpret British Columbia’s political history, its legislative process, and the art and architecture of the Parliament Buildings themselves. Guides deliver tours in English and at least one other language and must be prepared to adapt their tours to meet the needs our many different visitors.

Working as a summer guide offers students a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history and politics of British Columbia, while improving their public speaking skills and proficiency in their secondary language. It is also a great way to meet other post-secondary students from British Columbia as well as visitors from all over the world.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Be enrolled as an undergraduate student in an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Have experience in public speaking before large audiences.
• Have excellent verbal communication skills.
• Be able to speak English and one or more of the following languages: French, Mandarin, German, Spanish, Japanese, Punjabi or Korean. 
• Be able to communicate effectively with visitors from around the world.
