| Dale Lovick was acclaimed Government
Caucus Whip in November 2000. He was appointed Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister for Children and Families in November
2000. As well, Dale currently serves as the Chair of the Select
Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services.
Previously, he served as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs from
July 1999 to November 2000. Before that, he served as Minister
of Labour from February 1998 to July 1999, and as Minister
of Aboriginal Affairs from February 1998 to January 1999.
Dale is also a former Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister
of Environment, Lands and Parks, as well as to the Minister
of Forests. He served as Deputy Speaker until he was elected
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in June 1996.
First elected to the Legislative Assembly for the constituency
of Nanaimo in the 1986 general election, Dale was re-elected
in 1991 and 1996.
Dale was born and raised in Vancouver. He obtained bachelor
and master of arts degrees in English from the University
of British Columbia and a master of arts in Canadian studies
from Carleton University in Ottawa. Before being elected to
the Legislative Assembly, Dale was an instructor in English
and Canadian Studies at Malaspina College in Nanaimo, where
he was also head of the English department and president of
the faculty association.
Dale edited Tommy Douglas Speaks, published in 1979,
and was a contributing author in The Canadian Encyclopaedia.
Dale is married and has one stepson, Brett. |
