| Tim Stevenson was appointed Minister of Employment
and Investment on November 1, 2000.
He previously served as Deputy Speaker of the House and as
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Minister
Responsible for Seniors.
Rev. Stevenson was first elected to the Legislative Assembly
in 1996. He represents the riding of Vancouver-Burrard.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Rev. Stevenson holds a bachelor
of arts from the University of British Columbia; a master
of arts in spirituality from Holy Names College in Oakland,
California; and a master of divinity from the Vancouver School
of Theology. He was the first openly gay person ordained in
Canada.
Rev. Stevenson spent several years in Vancouver's Downtown
Eastside with the inner-city poor while sitting on the board
of First United Church. He has also served in the Philippines
and South Africa with the United Church, where he was involved
with liberation organizations working to overcome injustice
by oppressive regimes.
Partnered for 18 years, Rev. Stevenson lives in Vancouver
with Gary Paterson, also an ordained minister at Ryerson United
Church in Kerrisdale. Together, they have raised three daughters. |
