On May 14, 2013, John Yap was re-elected to a third term as MLA for Richmond-Steveston.
He currently serves as Parliamentary Secretary for Liquor Reform Policy to the Minister of Small Business, Red Tape Reduction and Minister Responsible for the Liquor Distribution Branch.
He serves on the Cabinet Committee for a Strong Economy, and the Cabinet Committee for Legislative Review. He also serves on the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, and the Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
John Yap served as Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism from September 5, 2012 to March 2013.
Previously, John served as the Minister of State for Climate Action and as the Chair of the Government Caucus. He was also a member of the Treasury Board. John also served on several Select Standing Committees including Public Accounts and Crown Corporations. He has also served as a member of the Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture.
John attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and obtained his Masters of Business Administration.
