On February 25 and October 9, 2014, the Legislative Assembly agreed that a Special Committee be appointed to review the Personal Information Protection Act in accordance with
section 59 of the
Personal Information Protection Act [SBC 2003, c. 63] and in particular, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by organizations.
In order to fulfill their mandate, the Committee conducted a public consultation process from June to October 2014, where Committee Members received valuable input from advocacy groups, organizations and individuals to inform their deliberations. On February 16, 2015, the Committee released their
unanimous report which includes 15 recommendations to strengthen privacy protection for British Columbians.
