HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:
CLAUSE 1: [Name Act, section 2] adds an exception to the restriction on changes of name under the Act.
1 Section 2 (2) of the Name Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 328, is amended by adding the following paragraph:
(a.1) a change in the surname of one spouse to a surname consisting of the surname of that spouse and the surname of the other spouse, hyphenated or combined; .
CLAUSE 2: [Name Act, section 3] permits a spouse by marriage to use a surname consisting of the surname of that spouse and the surname of the other spouse by marriage.
2 Section 3 is amended by striking out "or" at the end of paragraph (b), by adding ", or" at the end of paragraph (c), and adding the following paragraph:
(d) use a surname consisting of the surname of that spouse and the surname of the other spouse by marriage, hyphenated or combined.
3 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
