MR. WEISGERBER
HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:
1 Section 1 of the School Act, R.S.B.C. 1989, c. 61 is amended by adding the following definition:
"national anthem" means the national anthem of Canada, as defined by the National Anthem Act, (Canada)
2 Section 95 is amended by adding the following subsection:
(4) Students will be lead in the singing of the national anthem at the beginning of each school day, in a manner prescribed by each school district.
3 The terms of section 2 shall be referred to a province-wide referendum, held under the Referendum Act, at the time of the next ensuing provincial referendum or election after this Act comes into effect.
4 (a) Sections 1 and 3 come into effect by Royal Assent.
(b) Section 2 comes into effect on the date on which an affirmative vote on the terms of section 2 is passed by referendum.
