The Hon. R. Blencoe (Minister of Municipal Affairs, Recreation and Housing) presented to the Speaker a Message from His Honour the Lieutenant Governor, which read as follows:

The Lieutenant Governor transmits herewith Bill (No. 66) intituled Assessment and Property Tax Reform Act, 1992 and recommends the same to the Legislative Assembly.

Second reading at the next sitting after today.

Order called for "Oral Questions by Members."

Mr. Wilson presented a petition relating to parking at the Langdale ferry terminus of B.C. Ferries.

The House proceeded to "Orders of the Day."

By leave, the Hon. D. Miller moved--
That this House authorize the Select Standing Committee on Forests, Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources to examine, inquire into and make recommendations with respect to the availability of lumber to remanufacturers, and in particular without limiting the generality of the foregoing, to consider:

1. the lumber supply requirements of the remanufacturing sector; and

2. barriers or impediments to increasing the supply of lumber to the remanufacturing sector; and to report to the House as soon as possible, or following any adjournment, or at the next following Session, as the case may be; to deposit the original of its reports with the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly during a period of adjournment and upon the resumption of the sittings of the House, the Chairman shall present all reports to the Legislative Assembly.

In addition to the powers previously conferred upon the said Committee by the House, the Committee shall have the following additional powers, namely:

(a) to appoint of their number one or more subcommittees and to refer to such subcommittees any of the matters referred to the Committee;

(b) to sit during any period in which the House is adjourned, during the recess after prorogation until the next following Session, and during any sitting of the House;

(c) to adjourn from place to place as may be convenient; and

(d) to retain personnel as required to assist the Committee.

A debate arose.

The House resumed the adjourned debate on the motion for second reading of Bill (No. 63) intituled Human Rights Amendment Act, 1992.

63. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $30,675,967 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Women's Equality, Ministry Operations, to 31st March 1993.

Section A of Committee of Supply reported the Resolutions.

Section A of Committee of Supply having reported the last vote of the Estimates of the Ministry of Women's Equality, debate on those Estimates was summarized, pursuant to Sessional Order of March 26, 1992.
