PROVINCE-WIDE SCHOOL BARGAINING ACT

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

Requirement for joint bargaining

1 The School Act, SBC 1989, C. 61, is hereby amended by the addition of the following section:

30.1 (1) Each year, the Lieutenant Governor in Council shall, after consultation with the British Columbia School Trustees Association and the British Columbia Teachers' Federation, appoint a Joint Bargaining Council, which shall enter into a single set of negotiations conducted on behalf of all public school teachers, all public school boards, and the province, with respect to those issues which the Minister of Education shall determine to have predominantly provincial impact.

(2) The structure, mandate, and terms of reference of the Joint Bargaining Council shall be fixed by regulation of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

 
Explanatory Notes

This Bill provides for province-wide bargaining with teachers of issues which have a predominantly provincial impact.
