SENATORIAL SELECTION AMENDMENT ACT, 1993

WHEREAS the Senatorial Selection Act, 1990 provides British Columbians with the opportunity to advise the Prime Minister of Canada as to the person or persons by whom the people of British Columbia desire to be represented in the Senate of Canada;

AND WHEREAS it is desirable to afford British Columbians the opportunity to cast ballots in a timely fashion to fill vacancies in the Senate of Canada;

THEREFORE, HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1 Section 2. (1) of the Senatorial Selection Act is amended by adding "or a local general election as defined in the Local Election Reform Act, 1987."

 
Explanatory Note

This Act amends the Senatorial Selection Act of 1990 by providing an opportunity for British Columbians to cast ballots for British Columbia senatorial vacancies at the time of local general elections (i.e. municipal elections) as well as general elections.
