HOUSING, RECREATION AND CONSUMER SERVICES
STATUTES AMENDMENT ACT, 1994

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

 
Consumer Protection Statutes Amendment Act, 1993

1 Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Statutes Amendment Act, 1993, S.B.C. 1993, c. 39, is amended by repealing that part which enacts section 15 of the Credit Reporting Act, R.S.B.C. 1979, c. 78, and substituting the following:

Explanation

15 (1) A person may deliver to a reporting agency, in writing of not more than 100 words, an explanation or additional information that relates to any item of information kept by the reporting agency about the person.

(2) The reporting agency shall maintain the explanation or additional information with the other information it keeps about the person and shall include it in any report given about the person relating to the item.

 
Motor Dealer Act

2 Section 23 (2) of the Motor Dealer Act, R.S.B.C. 1979, c. 287, is repealed and the following substituted:

(2) A person must not alter, disconnect or replace, or cause to be altered, disconnected or replaced, a motor vehicle's odometer with the intent to mislead a prospective purchaser of the motor vehicle as to the distance travelled by the motor vehicle.

3 Section 24 (1) is amended

(a) in paragraph (c) by striking out "or" at the end,

(b) in paragraph (d) by striking out "or 23," and substituting "or 23; or", and

(c) by adding the following paragraph:

(e) contravenes a regulation made under this Act, .

 
Trading Stamp Act

4 The Trading Stamp Act, R.S.B.C. 1979, c. 407, is repealed.

 
Travel Agents Act

5 Section 11 of the Travel Agents Act, R.S.B.C. 1979, c. 409, is amended by adding the following subsection:

(3.1) The remuneration and expenses of board members referred to in subsection (3) and any expenses of the board associated with holding meetings must be paid out of the fund.

Commencement

6 Sections 2 to 5 come into force by regulation of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
