MS. ANNE EDWARDS
WHEREAS the first Black settlers arrived in Esquimalt, British Columbia on April 25, 1858;
AND WHEREAS the history of Black persons in British Columbia reveals courage and resourcefulness in helping to establish British Columbia as vibrant province;
AND WHEREAS the Government of British Columbia is committed to preserving and enhancing the heritage of British Columbians by recognizing the variety and integrity of our pioneers;
AND WHEREAS the Government of British Columbia acknowledges that the history of Black British Columbians has enriched British Columbia;
THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:
1 The month of February each year will be Black History Month throughout British Columbia.
2 This Act comes into force on Royal Assent.
This Bill declare the month of February to be Black History Month in British Columbia on an annual basis.
