9. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $332,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, Minister's Office, to 31st March 1997.

10. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $28,753,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, Ministry Operations, to 31st March 1997.


Section B of Committee of Supply reported the Resolutions and completion of the Estimates of the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs.

48. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $370,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture, Minister's Office, to 31st March 1997.

49. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $116,596,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture, Ministry Operations, to 31st March 1997.

50. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $23,408,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture, Tourism B.C., to 31st March 1997.

44. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $287,510,000 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture, British Columbia Transit, to 31st March 1997.

The Hon. J. MacPhail to move --

That a Special Committee be appointed to monitor and evaluate the progress of the work of the Transition Commissioner in respect of recommendations arising out of the Gove Inquiry into Child Protection, and that the Special Committee so appointed shall have the powers of a Select Standing Committee and is also empowered:

(a) to appoint of their number, one or more subcommittees and to refer to such subcommittees any of the matters referred to the Committee;

(b) to sit during a period in which the House is adjourned, during the recess after prorogation until the next following Session and during any sitting of the House;

(c) to adjourn from place to place as may be convenient;

(d) to retain such personnel as required to assist the Committee;

(e) to permit minority opinions in a report of the Committee;

and shall report to the House as soon as possible, or following any adjournment, or at the next following Session, as the case may be; to deposit the original of its reports with the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly during a period of adjournment and, upon resumption of the sittings of the House, the Chair shall present all reports to the Legislative Assembly.

The said Special Committee is to be composed of Ms. Gillespie (Convener), Messrs. Kasper, Hartley and Ms. Kwan, Ms. McKinnon and Mr. Coell and Mr. Neufeld.

Mr. Penner to move --

Be it resolved that the Legislature of British Columbia urge the Government of Canada to establish a nation-wide computer bank of known DNA samples to permit police to compare these samples with unidentified DNA samples recovered from crime scenes; and

Be it further resolved that the Legislature of British Columbia urge the Government of Canada to amend the Identification of Criminals Act to require persons convicted of serious violent or sexual offences to provide suitable DNA samples, to be stored in a nation-wide computer data bank.
