On the motion that the House recess until 6.35 p.m. a debate arose.
Pursuant to Standing Order 7 (2) the House recessed for 15 minutes.

The debate continued.
Mr. de Jong moved an amendment to the motion, namely, to replace all of the words after the word "that" with the words "the House do now adjourn".
The Speaker ruled the amendment out of order and referred Members to page 56 of Parliamentary Practice in British Columbia, 3rd edition, and stated that it is the prerogative of the Government House Leader to move a substantive motion to adjourn and that the amendment would have converted the motion to recess into a substantive motion to adjourn.
The debate continued.
On the motion of Mr. de Jong that the House do now adjourn, the House divided.
