The Hon. B. Barisoff (Speaker) introduced representatives of the BC Lions Football Team, winners of the 2006 Grey Cup, at the Bar of the House.

The Hon. M. de Jong made a statement.

Mr. Farnworth made a statement.

Ms. James reserved her right to raise a matter of privilege.

Ms. Karagianis reserved her right to raise a matter of privilege.

Mr. Fleming reserved his right to raise a matter of privilege.

Order called for "Members' Statements."

Order called for "Oral Questions by Members."

Mr. Coons presented a petition regarding welfare rates.

Ms. Conroy presented petitions regarding safety sharps regulations, and long-term care facilities.

The Hon. B. Barisoff (Speaker) tabled the following documents:
Office of the Ombudsman Annual Report, 2005;
Elections BC Annual Report, 2005/06;
Elections BC Service Plan, 2006/07 - 2008/09;
Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner Annual Report, 2005;
Office of the Auditor General Annual Report, 2005/2006;
Office of the Auditor General 2006/2007 Report 2: The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games: Review of Estimates Related to the Province's Commitments; and
Office of the Merit Commissioner Annual Report, 2005/2006.

Ms. James rose on a matter of privilege regarding statements made in the House by the Member for Chilliwack-Sumas regarding the authority of the Chief Coroner to conduct child death reviews.

The Hon. M. de Jong reserved the right to respond.

Ms. Kwan asked leave, pursuant to Standing Order 35, to move adjournment of the House to discuss a definite matter of urgent public importance, namely, the shelter rate for income assistance recipients.

The Hon. M. de Jong made a statement.

The Speaker advised that he would take the matter under advisement.

Mr. Rustad presented the Report of the Special Committee to Appoint a Representative for Children and Youth for the Second Session of the Thirty-eighth Parliament.

By leave, the Report was taken as read and received.

Mr. Rustad asked leave to suspend the rules to permit the moving of a motion to adopt the Report.

Leave was not granted.

The House proceeded to "Orders of the Day."

And then the House adjourned at 3.29 p.m.

That the Report of the Special Committee to Appoint a Representative for Children and Youth for the Second Session of the Thirty-eighth Parliament be adopted.
 
73 Mr. Rustad to move--
That the Legislative Assembly appoint Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond as the Representative for Children and Youth for the province of British Columbia for a term of five years pursuant to section 2 of the Representative for Children and Youth Act (SBC 2006 Chapter 29 - Bill 34).
