Cathy McGregor was appointed Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and Minister Responsible for Youth on November 1, 2000.

She previously served as Minister of Municipal Affairs from February 2000 to November 2000 and as Minister of Environment, Lands and Parks from January 1997 to July 1999. She was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1996 and represents the riding of Kamloops.

Ms. McGregor holds a bachelor of education from the University of Victoria and is on leave from Simon Fraser University, where she was working on her master's degree in curriculum and instruction.

An elementary school teacher for 19 years, Ms. McGregor has been a primary teacher and a teacher librarian. She also served as an in-service and training facilitator for new curriculum and teaching strategies.

For 14 years, Ms. McGregor was active in the B.C. Teachers Federation, both locally and provincially. She was involved in union-management relations and contract negotiations.

She was a director of the Kamloops Hospice Society and the Kamloops Heritage Society and is a past chair of the B.C. Lottery Corporation.

Ms. McGregor has a grown daughter, Cara.
