Dan Miller was elected Government Caucus Chair in November 2000. As well, he was also appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Corporate Relations and Minister Responsible for Northern Development in November 2000.

Dan served as Minister of Energy and Mines and Minister Responsible for Northern Development from February 1998 to November 2000. He was named Deputy Premier in 1996 and served as British Columbia's Premier from August 1999 to February 2000.

Dan served as Minister of Employment and Investment from January 1997 to February 1998 and was responsible for a number of Crown corporations, including B.C. Hydro. Before that, he was Minister of Municipal Affairs from June 1996 to January 1997, Minister of Skills, Training and Labour from September 1993 to February 1996, and Minister of Forests from November 1991 to September 1993.

First elected to the Legislative Assembly to represent the constituency of North Coast in 1986, he was re-elected in 1991 and 1996. While in Opposition, he was the New Democratic Party's forests critic.

Before being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Dan was a Prince Rupert city councillor. He is a millwright by trade.

Dan and his wife, Gayle Ballard, have five children and two grandchildren.
