Dennis Streifel was appointed Deputy Speaker in November 2000.

Previously, Dennis served as Minister of Fisheries from February 1998 to February 2000. Before that, he served as Minister of Human Resources from September 1996 to February 1998 and as Minister of Social Services from June to September 1996. He also served as Minister of Forests from February to June 1996.

Prior to his cabinet posts, Dennis was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Skills, Training and Labour and served on several select standing committees. He was Deputy Chair for the Committee of the Whole in the 1992 and 1993 legislative sessions.

Dennis was first elected to the Legislative Assembly to represent the constituency of Mission-Kent in the 1991 general election and was re-elected in 1996.

Before being elected to the Legislature, Dennis was a business agent for the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 1518. He also worked with Canada Safeway and Weldwood of Canada.

Always active in the community, Dennis has been involved with several community organizations.

Dennis and Linda Streifel have two daughters, Marlise and Kirsten.
