Douglas Symons was first elected to the B.C. Legislature in 1991. Before  becoming involved in provincial politics Douglas was a teacher for 29 years. He received his Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia with majors in mathematics and history.

Mr. Symons has been involved in a wide variety of community and educational issues and organizations. He was an active member of the Vancouver Secondary Teachers Association Council. He is a member of the Richmond Hospital Society, Richmond Theatre Society and Richmond Chamber of Commerce.

Doug and Marge Symons have three children and three grandchildren.
