MLA: Bill Belsey North Coast Elected:  2001 BRITISH COLUMBIA LIBERAL PARTY

Bill Belsey was elected in the riding of North Coast in the 2001 Provincial General Election. He serves on several Legislative Select Standing Committees including Finance and Government Services, which he Chairs, Public Accounts, Legislative Initiatives, the committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills, and the Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Bill also sits on the Government Caucus Committee on Economy and Government Operations. Bill Chairs the Land Use Planning Committee, is a member of the Northern Caucus Committee and the Small Scale Salvage Review Committee. Previously, Bill served on the Government Caucus Committee for Natural Resources, the Legislative Select Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, and was part of the Committee to Review Results-Based Forest Practices Code . 

Prior to his election as MLA, Bill was the Manager of Maintenance and Engineering at Skeena Cellulose's Pulp Operations. Bill earned a diploma in Physical Metallurgy from the BC Institute of Technology in 1969 and certification as an Air Mix Gas Diver from the US College of Oceaneering in 1975. Bill worked throughout BC and across Canada before moving to Prince Rupert in 1978. During his years on the North Coast , Bill owned and operated three businesses, employing up to fifty workers. His most recent business provided testing, inspection and diving services to the pulp and paper industry. Bill is a member of the Forest Industries Trade Committee, the Rupert Port Authority Nominating Committee, and the North Coast Oil and Gas Task Force.

Bill is a member of Rotary International, an active member of the Gizeh Temple and the Skeena Clown Unit. Bill has been very involved with Prince Rupert Minor Hockey as a referee, coach, vice-president and president. He also served one year as the Skeena Valley Amateur Hockey Association president.

Bill and Lonie, who married in 1994, have a blended family of four children and four grandchildren. Bill enjoys gardening and fishing.
