Arnie Hamilton was elected in the 2001 provincial general election in the riding of Esquimalt-Metchosin. He currently serves on the Government Caucus Committee on Communities and Safety. He is also a member of two Legislative Select Standing Committees: Public Accounts, and Finance and Government Services.

Before becoming an MLA, Arnie operated his own small business, which has grown significantly since 1986. Following graduation from Esquimalt High School , Arnie joined the Esquimalt Police Department where he served for 31 years. During this time, Arnie served as the President of the Esquimalt Police Union for 20 years. He attended the Canadian Police College , where he studied Senior Police Administration and Labour Relations, and undertook additional studies through the BC Federation of Police Officers. After 31 years of service, Arnie recently retired as an Esquimalt Police Department Patrol Sergeant. He is a member of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, BC Restaurant Association and Tourism Victoria .

Arnie's community involvement included: Lions Club 24 Hour Relay fundraiser; Juan de Fuca Parks and Recreation Commission chair (1997-2001) and member (1995-2001); sponsor of Esquimalt Oldies, Raiders Slo-pitch and Curling League Teams. Former involvements include serving as an Esquimalt Police Benevolent Association executive member (1996-2001). While a member of the Benevolent Association, Arnie served in various capacities, including fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis and chair of the Esquimalt Buccaneer Dance, in support of several community youth organizations.

Born in 1948 in North Bay , Ontario , Arnie has lived in the constituency since 1964. He and Carol, who married in 1979, have three children and three grandchildren. Arnie enjoys curling, slo-pitch and golf.
