Mr. Nebbeling was born in Amsterdam and immigrated to Canada in 1977.

Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Nebbeling opened a variety of retail stores in the Whistler village. He also served on municipal council in Whistler, both as a councillor and as mayor for two terms.

Mr. Nebbeling was chair of the Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission, a director of the Whistler Resort Association and a member of both the Municipal Forestry Committee and the Tourism/Forestry Task Force.

He was first elected in 1996 to represent the riding of West Vancouver-Garibaldi and was re-elected in 2001.

In opposition Mr. Nebbeling previously served as critic for municipal affairs, forests, and employment and investment. He sat on the Select Standing Committees on Finance and Crown Corporations, and on Economic Development, Science, Labour, Training and Technology, as well as the Official Opposition Caucus Committee on Health.

He served as Minister of State for Community Charter from June 2001 until January 2004, and was instrumental in BC's winning 2010 Olympic Bid.

Currently Mr. Nebbeling sits on the Government Caucus Committee on Communities and Safety.

Mr. Nebbeling and his partner live in Whistler and West Vancouver.
