Patty Sahota was appointed Minister of State for Resort Development on Feb.1, 2005.

Ms. Sahota was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 2001 provincial general election for the constituency of Burnaby-Edmonds.

She serves on the Government Caucus Committee for Communities and Safety, the Women's Caucus Committee, the Asian Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Legislative Standing Committees on Aboriginal Affairs and on Finance.

Ms. Sahota was instrumental in bringing the 2009 World Police and Fire Games to Burnaby, and has served as a member of the MLA Task Force on the Results-Based Forest Practices Code. She has also served on the Special Committee to Appoint a Police Complaint Commissioner, the Legislative Standing Committee on Health, and the Special Committee to Review the Police Complaint Process.

Before being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Sahota worked in various sectors of the forestry industry, including remanufacturing, lumber wholesale, and environmental systems. After earning her bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1993 from the University of Victoria, she worked for a commercial development realty firm and for the B.C. Liberal Party as a regional organizer and as an aide to then-Opposition Leader Gordon Campbell.

Ms. Sahota was born in India, and grew up in Merritt.
