Ken was first elected to the BC Legislature in the 2001 provincial general election for the riding of Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. Ken's current responsibilities include serving as Chair of the Legislative Standing Committee for Crown Corporations, and as a member of the Government Caucus Committee on the Economy and Government Operations.

Before becoming an MLA, Ken and his wife Sherry owned and operated Coniagas Ranches Limited. On their historic 400-acre family farm in Maple Ridge, which has been in the family since 1905, Ken pioneered the BC deer farm industry in 1987. From 1974 to 1984, Ken worked for the Attorney General's ministry before moving into the private sector where he was the general manager of a new company involved in the transition of government services to the private sector. Ken was elected to municipal council for the District of Maple Ridge in 1996.

Before becoming an MLA, Ken's community involvement included: Council Liaison to the Chamber of Commerce (1996-1999); Fields for Kids director (1993-1997); and, Maple Ridge Chamber of Commerce director (1994-1996). Ken has also been involved with Search and Rescue, Ducks Unlimited and Alouette River Flood Communications.

Ken was born in Maple Ridge in 1955. He and Sherry have four children. Ken enjoys playing and coaching hockey and football as well as pursuing outdoor activities that include mountaineering, hiking, canoeing and skiing.
