John Weisbeck was elected to the BC Legislature in 1996 for the riding of Okanagan East, and was re-elected in the new riding of Kelowna-Lake Country in 2001. During his time in Opposition, John served as the Official Opposition Critic for Advanced Education, Training and Technology. He currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Before becoming an MLA, John was a dentist for 25 years. He also set up a successful mixed farming business and fruit and garden centre. In 1963, John received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia, and four years later he attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Alberta. He then returned to Kelowna to practice dentistry. In 1988 he was elected as a Kelowna City Councillor, where he served for five years.
John's extensive past community involvement includes: chairperson of the Crime Prevention Committee; vice chair of the Kelowna Environment Committee; chairperson of the Kasugai Sister City Association; member of the Society for Community Living; co-founder of the Okanagan Opera Society; founding member of the Kelowna Social Planning Society and; president of the Kelowna and District Dental Society.

John has also received a number of awards including the American Society of Dentistry for Children Award and the Kinsmen Maple Leaf Award.

John was born in 1943 and was raised in Kelowna. He has three children, Toshi, Corry and Jason.
