Katherine Whittred was first elected in 1996 to represent the riding of North Vancouver-Lonsdale and was re-elected in 2001.

Katherine was appointed Minister of State for Intermediate, Long Term and Home Care on June 5, 2001, a position which she held until January 26, 2004. She also currently sits on the Women’s Caucus.

Ms. Whittred previously served as critic for the ministry of Social Development and Economic Security for the Official Opposition, as well as critic for seniors. She was chair of the Official Opposition Caucus Committee on Health, and also sat on the Select Standing Committees on Legislative Initiatives, and on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills.

Before her election to the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Whittred was a social studies and history teacher. She and her husband also owned and operated a small manufacturing business.

Ms. Whittred received her bachelor of education from the University of Calgary.

Katherine and Don Whittred live in North Vancouver and have three children and two grandchildren.
