Dr. John Wilson was first elected in 1996 as MLA for Cariboo North and was re-elected in the 2001 general election. John currently serves on several Legislative Select Standing Committees: Crown Corporations; Legislative Initiatives; and Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills. He is also member of the Special Committee of Selection, and the Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. John also serves on the Government Caucus Committee on Natural Resources, and is the Cabinet Liaison for the Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management.  He is a member of the Land Use Planning Committee, the Northern Caucus Committee, the BC Task Force on Mining, and the Small-Scale Salvage Review committee.

Previously, John served as Chair of the Pine Beetle Task Force, the Committee to Review Results-Based Forest Practices Code and wa s elected by his peers to serve as Government Caucus Chair from 2001 to 2002.  

John moved to Quesnel in 1967. He established the Quesnel Veterinary Clinic. Through innovative and common sense ideas, John has and continues to contribute to the sustainable economic development of agriculture in the Cariboo. His leadership accomplishments include:

John was born in 1944. He graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1967. Since 1967, John has been a member of the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association. He is the owner of the Quesnel Veterinary Clinic.

John has six children and two grandchildren. He and his wife Laura operate a cattle ranch that once was part of the Frontier Cattle Company. The Frontier Cattle Company was made famous by the Rich Hobson books entitled Grass Beyond The Mountains and Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy. The latter is the title of a favourite television series currently airing.
