MLA: Claire Trevena

North Island


Elected: 2005

NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

Claire Trevena was elected as the MLA for the North Island on May 17, 2005.

Claire serves as Opposition Critic for Childcare, Early Childhood Development and Women’s Issues.

She is an experienced journalist and diplomat with a history of social activism.

In the early 1990s, Claire came to Canada as the BBC's Canadian correspondent.

Subsequently she worked for the CBC in Toronto.

In the mid-1990’s, Claire began working internationally for Canada, the United Nations and other international organizations on democratic development projects in post-conflict societies. She was awarded the Canadian Civilian Peacekeeping Medal.

Most recently Claire founded a small communications business on Quadra Island with her husband, Michael McIvor.

She grew up in a mining town in the north of England. Since moving to BC she has been involved in a number of community initiatives, including a weekly community kitchen on Quadra Island as well as various environmental initiatives.

Claire has been elected to the board of the Quadra Community Association and held a seat on the Regional District of Comox Strathcona Regional Area J Advisory Planning Committee.
