The Clerk of the House informed the House of the unavoidable absence of the Speaker, whereupon Mr. Barnes, Deputy Speaker, took the Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 12.

The House proceeded to "Orders of the Day."

The House proceeded to "Motions on Notice."

On the motion of the Hon. C. Gabelmann, the House proceeded to consideration of Motion 26 on the Order Paper.

26   The Hon. T. Perry moved--
Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia declares British Columbia a nuclear weapons free zone.

The debate continued.

Mr. Symons moved the following amendment by adding:

And be it further resolved that this Assembly calls on the Government of Canada to conduct a full public environmental review of the dangers involved by the presence of nuclear weaponed and nuclear powered vessels in British Columbia's harbours and waterways.

The debate on the amendment continued.

The amendment agreed to on the following division:

The Lieutenant Governor transmits herewith Bill (No. 24) intituled Water Amendment Act, 1992 and recommends the same to the Legislative Assembly.

Order called for "Oral Questions by Members."

During Oral Question Period, the Speaker ruled that the subject matter of a question -- the admissibility of which was taken under advisement by the Speaker yesterday -- ought not to be the subject of further questions, pending a ruling from the Chair.

Pursuant to Sessional Order, the House resolved itself into Section A and Section B of Committee of Supply.

56. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $350,718 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Social Services, Minister's Office, to 31st March 1993.

57. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding $2,364,217,282 be granted to Her Majesty to defray the expenses of Ministry of Social Services, Ministry Operations, to 31st March 1993.
