BILL 22 -- 1996

BC FOREST RENEWAL AMENDMENT ACT, 1996

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1 Section 4 (1) of the BC Forest Renewal Act, S.B.C. 1994, c. 3, is amended by striking out "and" and the end of paragraph (a) and by adding the following paragraph:

(a.1) give first priority hiring, on Forest Renewal BC funded projects, to eligible British Columbia forest workers who have experienced or are facing work reductions, and .

2 The following sections are added:

Forest worker agency

6.1 (1) The board must establish a forest worker agency.

(2) The purpose of the forest worker agency is to establish a process to

(a) match eligible British Columbia forest workers with jobs on Forest Renewal BC funded projects, and

(b) facilitate priority hiring for eligible British Columbia forest workers.

Direction to the board

6.2 The Lieutenant Governor in Council may provide direction to the board regarding the establishment of eligibility criteria for the priority hiring of forest workers.

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force by regulation of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

 
Explanatory Notes

SECTION 1: [BC Forest Renewal Act, amends section 4 (1)] requires that eligible British Columbia forest workers who have experienced or are facing work reductions be given first priority in hiring for Forest Renewal BC funded projects.

SECTION 2: [BC Forest Renewal Act, adds sections 6.1 and 6.2] provides for the establishment of a forest worker agency, states the purpose of the forest worker agency and allows the Lieutenant Governor in Council to direct the board regarding the establishment of eligibility criteria for the priority hiring of forest workers.
