Pursuant to Sessional Order, order called for Section A of Committee of Supply (estimates of the Ministry of Attorney General).

On the motion for second reading of Bill (No. 2) intituled Budget Measures Implementation Act, 1997, a debate arose.

The debate continued.

On the motion of Mr. Gingell, the debate was adjourned to the next sitting.

Report to be considered at the next sitting.

Committee to sit again at the next sitting.

And then the House adjourned at 11.55 a.m.

Two o'clock p.m.

The Hon. G. Clark (Premier and Minister Responsible for Youth) made a statement regarding an explosion and deaths in Quesnel.

Mr. Campbell made a statement.

The Speaker called for a moment of silence to remember those who had died in the explosion.

The Hon. G. Clark (Premier and Minister Responsible for Youth) made a ministerial statement regarding the signing of a federal-provincial fisheries agreement.

Mr. van Dongen made a statement.

By leave, Mr. G. F. Wilson made a statement.

The Hon. C. McGregor (Minister of Environment, Lands and Parks) presented to the Speaker a Message from His Honour the Lieutenant Governor, which read as follows:

56   The Hon. J. MacPhail to move--

Be it resolved this House support the B.C. government's position before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry which calls on the Government of Canada to change Bill C-91 in a manner that supports and protects innovative drug research, promotes fair market competition and reduces drug costs in order to ensure the health, safety and financial well-being of Canadians come before the interests of the drug industry.
