That Katherine Whittred, Member for North Vancouver-Lonsdale Electoral District, be appointed a Deputy Speaker for this Session of the Legislative Assembly.

By leave, the Hon. M. de Jong moved—

That Ms. Val Roddick be substituted for Ms. Katherine Whittred as a Member on the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth.

Motion agreed to.

By leave, the Hon. M. de Jong moved—

That Bill (No. 40) intituled Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement Act be re-committed with respect to the Schedule.

Motion agreed to.

The House resumed the adjourned debate on the motion for second reading of Bill (No. 43) intituled Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Amendment Act, 2007.

The debate continued.

Mr. Farnworth moved the following amendment—

That the motion for second reading of Bill (No. 43) intituled Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Amendment Act, 2007 be amended by striking out “now read a second time” and adding “read a second time six months hence.”

The debate on the amendment continued.

On the motion of Mr. Farnworth, the debate on the amendment was adjourned to the next sitting of the House.

Be it resolved that this House urge the BC Government to use bio-diesel fuel to heat all government buildings including the Legislature.

79  Mr. Coons to move—

Be it resolved that this House support the recommendations of the Highway of Tears Symposium including full funding for the following:

1. The existing coordinator position for the Highway of Tears Project; to guarantee resources are there to ensure the longevity of the position.

2. The full set of recommendations as listed by the Highway of Tears Symposium (including a second coordinator position for the Project); and

3. The additional position of an event coordinator as recommended by Carrier-Sekani Family Services to properly distribute the workload that needs to be done to coordinate the recommendations.

80  Mr. Coons to move—

Be it resolved that this House support the creation of a “Ferry Dependent Communities Strategy” to ensure the long-term viability of ferry routes to remote communities and the viability of those communities, and;

Be it further resolved that this House support the freezing of ferry fares at rates current to November 1, 2007, until the “Ferry Dependent Communities Strategy” is enacted.
