HARMONIZED SALES TAX (HST) INITIATIVE VOTE AND REFERENDUM ACT

This Bill removes the requirement for conducting an initiative vote in relation to the HST initiative petition, and provides certainty respecting the referendum to be conducted under the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) Referendum Regulation.

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) initiative vote and referendum

1  (1) Despite section 13 of the Recall and Initiative Act, the initiative vote that would otherwise be required under that section in relation to the initiative petition referred to the chief electoral officer by motion of the Select Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives on September 13, 2010, is cancelled.

(2) For certainty, the Recall and Initiative Act does not apply in relation to the referendum to be conducted under the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) Referendum Regulation, B.C. Reg. 68/2011.

Commencement

2  This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
