MLA: Lorne Mayencourt

Vancouver-Burrard

Elected: 2001

BRITISH COLUMBIA LIBERAL PARTY

Lorne Mayencourt was first elected in the riding of Vancouver-Burrard in the 2001 provincial general election.  He currently serves on the Government Caucus Committee on Education and is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Legislative Standing Committee on Finance and Government Service, and is Caucus Liaison for the Ministry of Advanced Education. Lorne was the Chair of the Safe Schools Task Force and previously served on the Government Caucus Committee on Communities and Safety.

Lorne was a small business owner with many years in the computer software industry, gaining extensive North American business experience while working with Vancouver-based Columbia Computing Services. He managed the opening of the company's regional offices in Washington, DC and New York City before returning to Vancouver as the company's international sales manager.

Lorne has an extensive record of community service. He is a founding board member of the Life Quilt for Breast Cancer, and held directorships on the Vogue Theatre Restoration Society and the BC Women's Hospital Foundation. Lorne is best known as the founder and, for its first five years, executive director of the Vancouver Friends for Life Society, which supports people living with AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Lorne led the fundraising campaign to restore Weeks House at the Diamond Centre for Living, Canada's first wellness centre. As a volunteer, he has organized events for the community including "Sunday in the Square," a block party for West End seniors and their neighbours. Canada's Governor General recently presented Lorne with the Meritorious Service Medal, one of our country's highest honours.

Lorne grew up in BC, and has lived in the West End for over 20 years. Lorne's hobbies include running and cycling.
