Rob Fleming was re-elected as the MLA for Victoria-Swan Lake in May 2013. He was previously elected in May 2009 and May 2005 as the MLA for Victoria-Hillside.

Rob serves as Opposition Spokesperson for Education.

A strong advocate for his community, Rob has taken a lead role in working towards solutions for affordable housing and public transit, and promoting opportunities for regional economic development.

Having served as critic for post-secondary education, Rob brings a strong understanding of the importance of accessible and affordable education and training, particularly during challenging economic times.

Rob brought his keen understanding of public administration to his role as chair of the legislature’s bi-partisan Public Accounts Committee from 2005 to 2009, and regularly speaks out in the legislature about local and province-wide issues.

Prior to being elected, Rob served two terms as a Victoria City Councillor where he chaired the city’s finance committee and represented Victoria at the Capital Regional District, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission, the Capital Housing Corporation and Tourism Victoria.

Rob has a long track record of community involvement in Victoria. While completing his degree at the University of Victoria, he spearheaded the creation of the universal bus pass for students in Victoria, the first of its kind in British Columbia.

Rob has been involved in a number of national and community organizations, including Environmental Defence Canada, Common Borders, the Work Place, the Veins of Life Watershed Society and the Victoria Cool Aid Society Foundation.

Rob lives in Victoria with his wife Maura, daughter Rory and son Jack. He is a dedicated soccer fan and player, and an avid user of Victoria’s parks and beaches.
