Position Summary

​Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Parliamentary Education Office is seeking up to ten passionate, motivated and personable individuals for the auxiliary part-time position of Summer Tour Guide.

Reporting to the Parliamentary Tour Officer, the Summer Tour Guide is responsible for delivering 30 - 45 minute tours in English and one additional language several times a day. Applicants must be able to converse clearly in both languages and adapt their tours to meet the needs of our many different visitors (such as school and ELL groups). In addition to delivering tours, Summer Tour Guides are required to spend a significant amount of time outside welcoming visitors to the Parliament Buildings.

Summer Tour Guides work an average of 30 hours per week and must be able to work shifts between the hours of 8:30 am and 7:00 pm, 7 days of the week, including statutory holidays. Summer Tour Guides must be available to work over the entire duration of the term.

Qualifications

​Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution during the Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 semesters, have experience in public speaking in front of large audiences, and be able to speak English and a second language.
