Position Summary

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Legislative Library is seeking an experienced, detail oriented, and knowledgeable individual for the regular full-time position of Librarian.

Reporting to a library manager, the Librarian supports the information and research needs of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), caucus staff, Assembly staff, statutory offices, provincial government researchers, and members of the public. The Librarian designs, develops, and delivers library products, collections and services. The Librarian has responsibilities and provides leadership in the areas of reference, technical services, and systems.

Specifically, the Legislative Library is seeking a systems Librarian to administrate, maintain, configure, and upgrade library systems and software, including creating and customizing web interfaces and applications. The incumbent will also develop, plan, and supervise digitization initiatives and create, maintain, and preserve digital collections. Experience with library system administration, SQL and digital collection management is an asset. Additional assignments will include working on the reference desk, guiding library systems projects through privacy and security assessments, original cataloguing of government documents and other materials, and other work as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Masters of Library Science or equivalent education from an ALA-accredited school of library science. Electronic resource management and original cataloguing experience are preferred.
