VICTORIA –The Special Committee to Review the
Personal Information Protection Act has extended the deadline for public submissions as part of its review of private sector privacy law in British Columbia. An additional public hearing will be held in Victoria Tuesday, October 7.
The committee has already received valuable submissions from stakeholders and the public, and is seeking further input on the effectiveness of the
Personal Information Protection Act. The act governs how private sector organizations may collect, use and disclose British Columbians’ personal information. Public submissions will be important contributions to the committee’s work in preparing its report to the Legislative Assembly with recommendations to amend the act.
“Organizations and the public are invited to make a written submission to the committee or to register to make a presentation at the public hearing in Victoria,” said committee chair Mike Bernier. “All input will be carefully considered and is critical to ensure that our final report to the Legislative Assembly is comprehensive and current,” added deputy chair George Heyman.
