VICTORIA – The Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth is undertaking a special examination of youth mental health in British Columbia. The committee is inviting written submissions from the public and will be holding meetings with expert witnesses and youth and families in June 2014.
“The committee’s goal is to foster greater awareness and understanding of B.C.'s child welfare system,” said committee chair Jane Thornthwaite. “We want to engage with British Columbians and find ways to better meet the needs of youth with mental health challenges.”
“We are interested in hearing about the challenges, best practices and priority areas for resources to treat and prevent youth mental health issues,” said deputy chair Carole James. “The committee is inviting written submissions and will be meeting with experts and stakeholders on this important issue.”
