Position Summary

​​​Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Legislative Assembly Student Employment Program provides an opportunity for students to gain work experience and learn more about British Columbia's history and legislative process.  The Parliamentary Players bring the history of British Columbia and the Parliament Buildings to life by performing as significant figures from our province's past. 

Parliamentary Players deliver scripted monologues during guided tours of the Parliament Buildings and conduct historical vignettes. Players are also required to spend a significant amount of time interacting with the other historical characters, Summer Tour Guides, and visitors to the Parliament Buildings while remaining in character.

Qualifications

​Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student  at an accredited post-secondary educational institution during the Fall 2017 and/or Spring 2018 semesters;
  • Be able to convincingly portray one of the following characters: Francis Mawson Rattenbury, Amor de Cosmos, James Douglas, Mary Ellen Smith, Queen Victoria, or other relevant historical characters)
  • Have  performance experience to different audiences and excellent voice projection skills; and
  • Be able to creatively improvise while remaining in character.  ​

Hours of work:  Parliamentary Players work an average of 30 hours per week and must be able to work shifts between the hours of 8:30 am and 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday. Parliamentary Players must be available to work the entire period of employment.

Salary: $19.98 per hour + 8% in lieu of vacation pay
