Legislative Assembly Releases Audited Financial Statements

MEDIA RELEASE

November 6, 2014

Legislative Assembly - Province of British Columbia

VICTORIA –– Honourable Linda Reid, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, today released the Legislative Assembly’s first audited financial statements and annual Accountability Report.

“This new report describes actions taken by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee to enhance governance, increase accountability to taxpayers, and strengthen financial management during the 2013-14 fiscal year,” said Madame Speaker.

The report includes the Assembly’s first independently audited financial statements. B.C.’s Office of the Auditor General has audited the statements and provided an unqualified audit opinion, assuring British Columbians that the statements are reliable and fair.

“I commend Committee members and Assembly staff for their contributions in support of this successful audit. This and our other accountability achievements put B.C.’s Legislative Assembly in the front ranks of parliamentary accountability across Canada,” added Madame Speaker.

The report also outlines the Committee’s directions for the year ahead, including implementation of its May 2014 decision to post receipts for Members’ travel and constituency office expenditures on the Assembly’s website.
