On April 13, 2021 the Legislative Assembly agreed that a Special Committee be appointed to continue its review of the Personal Information Protection Act [SBC 2003, c. 63] in accordance with section 59 of that Act.
The Act governs how private sector organizations can collect, use, and disclose personal information. It also requires organizations to protect and secure personal information against unauthorized use or disclosure, and grants individuals the right to access their own personal information. Section 59 of the Act requires a Special Committee to review the Act every six years.
As part of its review, the Committee held public hearings in June and July and issued a call for written submissions. Committee Members would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the consultation.
Transcripts and meeting documents from the public hearings are available under Committee Meetings and written submissions received by the Committee are posted under Committee Documents. The Special Committee will consider all input and issue a report to the Legislative Assembly by December 8, 2021.
