Each year, the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services holds province-wide public consultations on the upcoming provincial budget. Pursuant to the
Budget Transparency and Accountability Act the consultation period opens with the release of the
Budget Consultation Paper by the Minister of Finance. British Columbians can participate by presenting at a public hearing, making a written, audio or video submission, or completing an online survey.
Important dates to note for this year's consultation process:
- Consultation Portal open for registrations, submissions and survey responses on September 21
- Public hearings begin on September 25
- The consultation ends on October 16
- The Committee's report on the consultation will be released by November 15.
The Committee is also empowered to consider and to make recommendations on the annual reports, rolling three-year service plans, and budgets of B.C.'s eight statutory officers.
