Welcome

The Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills is one of ten permanent all-party committees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The Committee considers private bills referred to it by the Legislative Assembly, as provided by Standing Order 105.

On May 30, 2019, the Legislative Assembly agreed that the revision of the Workers Compensation Act [RSBC 1996] c. 492 be presented to the Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills for examination and recommendation pursuant to the Statute Revision Act [RSBC 1996] c. 440.

On July 25,2019, the Committee undertook the examination of the revision of the Workers Compensation Act [RSBC 1996] c. 492 pursuant to the Statute Revision Act [RSBC 1996] c. 440. and recommended to the Lieutenant Governor that the revision be approved and brought into force.

Terms of Reference

On May 30, 2019, The Legislative Assembly agreed that the revision of the Workers Compensation Act [RSBC 1996] Chapter 492, be presented to the Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills for examination and recommendation pursuant to the Statute Revision Act [RSBC 1996] Chapter 440.

In addition to the powers previously conferred upon the Select Standing Committees of the House, the Committee is empowered to:

  1. appoint of their number, one or more subcommittees and to refer to such subcommittees any of the matters referred to the Committee;
  2. sit during a period in which the House is adjourned, during the recess after prorogation until the next following Session and during any sitting of the House;
  3. adjourn from place to place as may be convenient; and
  4. retain such personnel as required to assist the Committee;

and shall report to the House as soon as possible, or following any adjournment, or at the next following Session, as the case may be; to deposit the original of its reports with the Acting Clerk of the Legislative Assembly during a period of adjournment and upon resumption of the sittings of the House, the Chair shall present all reports to the Legislative Assembly.
