Welcome
On June 16, 2021, the Legislative Assembly agreed that a Special Committee be appointed to review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act [RSBC 1996, c. 165] in accordance with section 80 of that Act.
The Committee has concluded its public consultation and would like to thank everyone who shared input. The Committee will release its report, including recommendations, by June 15, 2022.
Adopted in 1992, the Act provides British Columbians with a statutory right of access to records in the custody or control of public bodies, subject to certain exceptions; governs how public bodies collect, use, and disclose personal information; and requires public bodies to protect the personal information that they have in their custody or control. Section 80 of the Act requires a Special Committee to review the Act every six years.
